The systematically use of rape as a tool of oppression on civilians in Burma does indeed give rise to concern in Denmark and in the EU. The question has been raised by the EU, in dialogue with
the Burmese regime at several occasions, among these, in connection with
the visit of the EU Troika in Burma on 8th to 10th September 2002. The
EU are pursuing that this year's Human Rights Resolution on Burma in the
UN General Assembly, will contain amessage to the regime to take measures
against the systematically use of rape. The UN Ambassador on Human Rights
issues Paulo Sergio Pinhiero will visit Burma on October 12th to 22nd,
in order to, among other things, examine the use and the extent of systematic
rape.
