A recently built dam on the Longjiang (Nam Mao or Shweli) river in Yunnan Province of China has severely disrupted the livelihoods of about 16,000 villagers living in the Mao Valley along the northern Shan State border in Burma.

Paper dolls from Shan State to raise fund for SWAN Education Program!

 

In collaboration with DANIDA (Danish International Development Agency) & the Danish Burma Committee (DBC), SWAN has produced a book of cut-out dolls from children showing the costumes of the different ethnic groups in Shan State. The book is being on sale internationally to raise funds for SWAN Education Program. For more information on how to place an order, please contact SWAN at: paperdolls@shanwomen.org
   



The Shan Women's Action Network (SWAN)

SWAN is a network of Shan women active in Shan State and Thailand, set up on 28 March 1999. Its mission is to work on gender equality and justice for Shan women in the struggle for social and political change in Burma through community-based actions, research and advocacy.

SWAN is a founding member of the Women’s League of Burma (WLB), an umbrella women’s organization comprising thirteen women’s groups from Burma.SWAN, through its affiliation with local, regional and international women's organizations, establishes common platforms to promote the role of women from Burma in the struggle for democracy and human rights in their country.
