Women's Empowerment Program

Internship Program
In order to fulfil the need for capacity development of women to run SWAN's programs along the border and inside Shan State, SWAN started an internship program in 1999. So far there have been 6 courses and 25 young women have graduated.  Thirteen have been working full-time with SWAN's existing programs and 6 are working in SWAN network groups and others are still furthering their studies.  The most recent internship program finished in June, 08 and the five interns are now assisting different SWAN programs.

Trainings and workshops
The Women Empowerment Program has been organizing activities with migrant/refugee women along the Thai–Shan border:

  • Bi-monthly women’s exchanges on different issues
  • Organising community events on special days for women such as International Women’s Day, International Day of Elimination of Stop Violence against Women, etc
  • Summer Shan literacy training
